KDOT is currently hiring an Equipment Shop Supervisor for the District Three Shop in Norton, Kansas

Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Develops work plans, assigns tasks, organizes, and supervises the work of the equipment mechanics in the District Shop.
  • Supervises the analysis of failures and the life cycle cost analysis of fleet equipment. 
  • Maintains environmental records and monitors the conditions of safety and hazmat operations of the District Shop.
  • Monitors in progress maintenance work and, upon completion, relays information to supervisory staff from where the unit is assigned.
  • Coordinates the work on complex projects to ensure compliance with District capacity, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Directs, instructs, and trains other mechanics in the repair and reconditioning of automobiles, trucks, graders, snowplows, excavators, dozers, truck-mounted sweepers and truck-mounted pain triper, bridge snooper, tractor-trailer, and bucket trucks and similar machinery commonly used in highway maintenance and construction activity.
  • Consults with Area Shops on unusual or complex repair problems and assists with difficult repair issues; provides expertise to determine the need for in-house or outsourcing of repairs.
  • Approves requisitions for parts, maintains shop records, makes reports, completes and specification sheets on all KDOT equipment, supervises the maintenance of a perpetual inventory stock, tools, and equipment.
  • Administers annual tool budget purchasesmaintains visa card records daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and coordinates transportation for all surplus equipment for sale and maintains records of all surplus transactions.

Compensation:

  • Base Annual Salary:  $63,086.40
  • Base Hourly Pay:  $30.33

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance that meets the needs of the agency.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.

Post-Offer/Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
  • This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment/pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position. (This position will also require you to participate in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.)
  • Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position. (Per SOM 2.1.10).
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03. Each applicant (even non-residents) who is selected for a State of Kansas job vacancy must apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate within 10 days from the date of the offer letter by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's (KDOR) website at www.kdor.ks.gov/apps/taxclearance/Default.aspx .
