Norton County Hospital has a career opportunity for Risk Management and Quality Improvement. The Director of QAPI and Risk Management is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Risk Management and Quality Improvement programs for Norton County Hospital. These programs are to integrate efforts to develop, maintain and improve the optimal standard of patient care. This position reports to the CEO and will have supervisory duties within the organization and have staff that report directly to them.
Applicants must have strong communication, organization, and computer skills. An RN with previous experience in an acute care hospital is preferred. Position is full-time with office hours typically Monday-Friday. Applicants must be able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
Primary responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Risk Management:
- Facilitates hospital wide Risk Management program to help assure effective reporting, investigation and follow-up of possible adverse events
- Receives and assigns reported incidents for investigation, performs thorough investigations as needed
- Conducts assessments and studies as needed to determine and assure optimal patient care
- Assists with development of policies to improve patient care and minimize risks
- Conducts and documents Risk Management meetings quarterly at minimum
- Maintains thorough, accurate, and secure records in accordance with record retention policies, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies
- Ensures timely and accurate quarterly reporting of risk management data to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE)
- Prepares reports and presents to Hospital Board of Trustees quarterly or as necessary
- Serves as an active member of designated committees, engaging in discussion, contributing to decision-making, and supporting implementation of committee initiatives
- Directs the patient complaint/grievance process, ensuring all concerns are promptly investigated, appropriately resolved, and tracked for trends, with findings used to support quality and risk reduction efforts
- Serves on necessary committees
Quality Improvement:
- Analyze quality reporting data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
- Translates reported data into actionable insights to support the facility’s QAPI program
- Works with administrative team to plan, prioritize, and implement organization-wide quality and patient safety initiatives
- Exhibits proficiency with quality tracking software and provide support to department leaders to utilize the system for QAPI
- Works with all hospital departments to assure effective assessment and measurement of processes and patient care to assure quality and address areas for improvement
- Works with Medical Staff regarding Quality Assurance obligations for medical care review
- Works with leadership and staff to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
- Performs computer-based statistical analysis of data related to the Quality Improvement program
- Collaborates with department leaders to create effective policies to enhance quality of care
- Serve as the QAPI Committee Chairperson – organize/lead meetings, maintain accurate records, and ensures PI projects follow the PDSA cycle and support organizational goals
- Serve as the Policy and Procedure Committee Chairperson – organize meetings, maintain accurate records, and assist with moving policies through the approval process
- Prepares monthly report for Board of Trustees and attends board meetings as necessary
