This is a full-time position with a rotation shift, involving nights, weekends and holidays. Reporting directly to the Electric Production Superintendent, you will be the heartbeat of the City’s power grid, balancing complex machinery with real-time grid demands.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Start, operate, and shut down massive dual-fuel internal combustion engines ranging from 3,600 HP to 10,000 HP.
  • Monitor and adjust generator outputs to stay within required limits and manage connections with external electric utility systems.
  • Keep a close eye on equipment temperatures, pressures, and outputs, accurately recording details on plant logs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on centrifugal/piston pumps, motor-operated valves, air compressors, and cooling towers.
  • Assist mechanics with complex repairs and collaborate with other city departments on special projects.
  • Take pride in keeping the building, tools, and facility equipment clean, safe, and organized.
  • Master a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends to ensure 24/7 community power.
  • This position requires the ability to grasp and feel objects, tools, or controls.

 Physical Demands:

This is a highly active, hands-on role where you will be on the move all day and required to:

Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout your shift. Ability to work confidently around moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, and in varied environments (wet, humid, or dusty conditions), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high levels of noise, heat, and vibration. Hearing protection is required during working hours. The employee must occasionally lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Strong ability to talk, hear, and collaborate effectively with a close-knit team.

Education and Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D.                          Valid Kansas Driver’s License
